Excellent colour extraction from this vintage. The ferment slow produced a very pleasant natural tannic component. Varietal characters typical of the McLaren Vale also very prominent; cassis, ripe black berry, white pepper, chocolate & mint. A wine with elegance and finesse that will age gracefully. Formerly owned by Brian and Kay Light, Merrivale was acquired by Gerard Industries in 1997. Set on a ridge in the heart of McLaren Vale, this picturesque winery overlooks McLaren Vale and features pleasant picnic areas with stringy bark eucalyptus. Keen to preserve the natural charm of the winery, the new management is continuing to produce smooth opulent wines of which the winery has always been well renowned. Flagship of Merrivale Wines are the Tapestry selection of premium wines. Tapestry's Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are sourced from the Bakers Gully Vineyard near Kangarilla. This particular vineyard is located on ironstone soil and has been a major contributor to the winery's impressive achievements.
